Ed in So. Calif Agua Dulce, Ecotec Baja Bug

Post by Baha bug on Thu Jan 20, 2011 5:32 pm

sorry if this is a repost

Hi, I am new to the ecotec motor, My boy and I just finished a king coil over shock off road baja bug with a strong 2332 cc VW motor, and we are now working on a similar type vehicle for me. I had read a story about a baja bug with an ecotec motor and decided on going that route since the motors are available and reasonably priced. What he has in his VW motor I can buy 8 ecotec motors. So I was lucky enough to fine a running baja bug with a 2005 ecotec Cavalier motor. with all the computer and wire upgrades and the adaptor plate to the bus trans I will be using for less then the parts necessary to get a motor in the baja I have now. One problem was the motor according to the po was perfect and sat for several months and when he started it it sounded like a bad lifter, my research led me believe it was the timing chain tensioner. What I did was put in 1/2 can of seafoam in the oil and came back and the motor was running like a new car. Hopefully I will be able to install the upgrades tensioner this weekend, along with plugs and new oil and filter. The motor will be coming out soon and hope to get this thing on the road in about 7 months. Street registered and maybe far from street legal. mine
